Description

In 2016 Chris Moore, a local Dorset fossil expert, found the partial fossilised remains of an ichthyosaur. Ichthyosaurs were sea reptiles that lived million years ago, and were shaped much like a dolphin, although they are not in fact related. The fossilised bones that Chris found suggested it was different to most ichthyosaurs which are found, and possibly a new species.

As a result Chris teamed up with David Attenborough and a BBC film crew, and a documentary was made about the recovery of more of the remains from the cliffs. The documentary was shown on BBC1 in January 2018.

This small 20 page self published paperback book is Chris’s account of how he discovered and prepared the fossil, and the subsequent investigations into the specimen by other local experts.
